The Isaniwa Shrine, located on the slopes of Mount Dogo near Dogo Onsen, is one of Japan’s three major “Hachiman-zukuri” style shrines, along with the Iwashizu Hachimangu in Kyoto and the Usa Jingu in Oita. Its beautifully vibrant vermilion-colored structure is breathtaking when seen up close. Known as a power spot for matchmaking and the fulfillment of wishes, it is highly recommended to receive an amulet or talisman during your visit.
One of the shrine’s most captivating features is the view from the top of the stone steps. After climbing the steep stairs, you will encounter a torii gate, and beyond that, you can see Matsuyama Castle on the distant Katsu Mountain. The stunning panoramic view, resembling a miniature garden, is sure to leave a lasting impression on your heart.
